About
Ruby Crandell is an advocate and researcher specialising in community-led initiatives within tertiary institutions and the gender-climate nexus. She has extensive experience designing and delivering programs that promote inclusion and prevent gender-based violence across university communities. Ruby’s research focuses on gender-responsive climate policymaking, examining how institutions can better integrate equity and sustainability in domestic and international contexts. She is open to consultancy work and short-term tenders related to gender, climate, and social inclusion.
Ruby believes in decolonial and community-led approaches that champion the voices of those most affected by systemic inequalities: amplifying the solutions they create and working with rather than for communities.

PROJECT LEAD
The two faces of Australian policy at the gender-climate nexus: sifting priorities through the “Janus Sieve”
Thesis examining differentiation between Australia’s domestic and foreign in their approaches to gender-responsive climate action. This study develops an original framework—the Janus Sieve—to explain how institutional structures and narratives filter international norms into divergent outcomes. By uncovering how institutional design mediates global norms, the thesis advances theory on intra-state policy divergence and highlights the need for more integrated, gender-responsive climate governance.
